Technical expertise and quality assurance are the Group’s strengths. In addition to tank design and fabrication expertise, the group prides itself on its bitumen technology credentials. The group has been working closely with Prof. Ken Kandhal Professor Emeritus, National Center for Asphalt Technology, U.S.A. A senior member of the Group has been trained at NCAT, Auburn University in Asphalt Technology. In addition, Prof. Kandhal advises governments, semi-government organizations and private companies on behalf of the Richmond Group.

The Group maintains an in-depth database of laboratory test results for bitumen from several refineries. These test results date back to 1996 and allow the group to closely monitor performance of various asphaltic crude’s and refining capabilities. In addition, the has been working closely with Pörner Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH., Austria a leader in design and commissioning of bitumen processing units and specialized bitumen refineries . Pörner has designed several components of the bitumen processing units in Asian and Middle Eastern refineries from where the Richmond group sources volumes.

Richmond tests all bitumen supplied to its clients at various independent laboratories owned and operated by SGS, Saybolt and Geochem in the Middle East and Asia. Consistency in testing parameters allows Richmond’s clients to be confident in the quality of product procured. Samples are drawn from one or all of the following points: At the refinery, at the export terminal, from the ship and at the discharge port.

Richmond’s expertise and established credentials enables it to work with refineries to produce special grades of bitumen in addition to grades that meet more traditional specifications including penetration, viscosity, and performance grades.
